The results
Mostly A’s — You ask for one clear thing. You ask like someone who expects an answer, which is largely why you get one. Keep it specific. ‘Can we plan something on a weekday’ works where ‘more effort’ never has and never will.
Mostly B’s — You hint and wait to be read. Hinting protects you from hearing no, and it also guarantees you never hear yes. One plain sentence, no apologising preamble in front of it. If you can say it in a breath, it isn’t too much.
Mostly C’s — It comes out as an accusation. The want underneath is usually fair — the delivery turns it into a case about his character. Rewrite anything that starts with ‘you always’ or ‘you never’ before it leaves your phone.
Mostly D’s — You say nothing at all. Have you ever raised something with him and had it go fine? If yes, this is your fear talking, and it’s survivable. If raising things has genuinely gone badly, that’s information about him.
