The results
Mostly A’s — The rereader. You’re not looking for information any more, you’re looking for comfort, and the fifteenth read never gives it. Ask what a new read would tell you. It’s always nothing. That’s your cue to put it down.
Mostly B’s — You make him notice. The impulse is fair — you want proof you matter. But a reaction isn’t an answer. Name what you want before you act: ‘I want him to notice me’ is a sentence you can say out loud instead.
Mostly C’s — Your body goes first. Your nervous system is faster than your judgement, and it isn’t lying to you, it’s just early. Twenty minutes and something physical before you decide what the silence means.
Mostly D’s — You let it sit. You can tolerate not knowing, which is rarer than you think. Keep watching what he does when the quiet ends — whether he explains it unprompted, and whether the gaps are getting shorter.
