The results
Mostly A’s — The clean no. You can say no without attaching a court case to it, which is rarer than you think. Keep asking the same way — one specific thing, said once. It’s why things stay clear around you.
Mostly B’s — The yes you didn’t mean. The test isn’t whether you say yes, it’s why. Yes because you want to is fine. Yes because no feels dangerous is the one to watch. Notice which one it was the next three times.
Mostly C’s — The rehearsed no. Rehearsing means you’re braced for a bad reaction. Have you ever brought something up with him and had it go fine? If yes, this is fear. If it’s never gone fine, that’s information about him.
Mostly D’s — The no that comes out sideways. Nothing comes out at the time, so it arrives later with interest. If a sentence starts with ‘you always’ or ‘you never’, rewrite it before it leaves your hands. Ask for one thing instead.
