Being left on read once is almost always someone opening a message at a bad moment and losing it to the scroll. Being left on read repeatedly, on messages that clearly asked something, is an answer — just a cowardly one.
One read receipt is not rejection. Your nervous system will insist otherwise. It's wrong.
Count it. Once is noise. Three times on messages that needed a reply is a pattern, and a pattern is information.

“hey — i'd rather know than guess. are you still interested in this?”
